What cameras and lenses are good for landscape photos & video?
Most people think that wide angle lenses are what you need for landscape photos, but that makes things look smaller than they really are. So, we prefer using a larger sensor camera and a moderate wide to normal lens (between 35-70mm). Wide angle lenses are still useful in tight quarters, but that's not usually the case in landscape photography!
Lenses for Landscape Photography
Many photographers believe that wide-angle lenses are essential for capturing stunning landscape photos. However, this common misconception overlooks some important aspects of perspective and composition. Here’s a breakdown of the considerations when choosing lenses for landscape photography:
Why We Choose Normal Lenses (Usually)
Using a moderate wide to normal lens (between 35-70mm) can be more beneficial for landscape photography for several reasons:
Accurate Perspective: These lenses maintain a more realistic representation of the scene, making elements appear closer to their actual size.
Versatility: They can be used for a variety of compositions, from wide vistas to more intimate landscapes.
When We Use Wide Angle
While moderate wide to normal lenses are often preferable, wide-angle lenses still have their place, particularly in specific scenarios:
Tight Quarters: In confined spaces where you need to capture more of the scene, wide-angle lenses can be invaluable.
Creating Dramatic Perspectives: They can exaggerate depth and create a sense of scale, which can be effective in certain compositions.
